WHAT IS A GUA SHA MASSAGE?

Gua Sha massage treatments are given using a specially shaped stone usually jade or rose quartz, to restore chi and heal the body.

The physiological benefits of a Gua Sha treatment to the body are:

FAQs

Do I need an oil?

For your treatment, a base oil such as almond, coconut or vegetable oil is used for ease of movement.

Who is not suitable for Gua Sha?

Pregnant women, frail or those convalescing, taking blood thinners, haemophilia, broken skin are not suitable for this treatment.

What is  a Gua Sha massage good for?

Tight muscles, stiff neck, back ache, coughs and fevers, headache, migraine increases circulation and improves the immune system.

How often should i have Gua Sha?

Weekly body Gua Sha treatments are advisable to help with pain relief and keep the body ‘well’. If you are using Gua Sha at home, short 10 minute sessions once or twice a day is recommended.

Is there anything I need to avoid after Gua Sha massage?

After a Gua Sha treatment the body should be kept warm and not allowed to get cold. Drinks should be warm not cold and do not eat for an hour after treatment. It is better to relax after rather than exercise to give the body time to heal.

What is the difference between Gua Sha and a hot stone massage?

Gua Sha stones are used for chronic issues and generally used on focused areas, hot stones are used as a full body treatment and relaxation.

Can Gua Sha help with wrinkles?

Some people notice a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles due to increased circulation and the skin looking plumper and softer.

Is Gua Sha an alternative to Botox?

Some people have commented that Gua Sha facial massage is a natural holistic therapy that can be used as an alternative to Botox. Gua Sha can help to tighten skin and due to better circulation make the skin look fresher and younger.

What Gua Sha stone do you use?

In my practice I use a rose quarts and jade Gua Sha stone for the facial massage and or a metal, magnetix stone for the body.
