5 Benefits of an Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is a combination of hands-on massage with the added health benefits of true essential oils. During massage, circulation is increased which increases blood flow to vital organs and muscles. This causes endorphins to be released into the system, these hormones are known as the ‘feel good chemicals’ as they can help to reduce stress, relieve pain and give a feeling of relaxation and well-being. Essential oils are absorbed through the skin and also inhaled into the body to give health benefits, including enhanced brain function, pain relief, and stress relief.

1. Stress relief – giving yourself ‘me time’ is extremely beneficial and necessary in these days of constantly being on the go. Our body needs to have time to rest, reset and repair. Mental and psychological stress can, and often does, cause physical issues such as back pain, headaches, IBS, and in some people serious illnesses such as heart attacks etc.

2. Anxiety reliever – a gentle soothing massage with essential oils such as lavender – rose – bergamot can help to reduce anxiety and all the issues that go with it ie: insomnia, lack of confidence, lack of libido, and mental health issues.

3. Increased calmness and relaxation – just that 1 hour during a massage when you have no worries can help your body and mind to feel calm and relaxed. Regular treatments can make a huge difference to your day-to-day life and health.

4. Decrease in muscle tension – when massaging tight muscles there is an increase of blood circulation that helps relieve pain and releases any pressure on nerves causing that pain.

5. Reducing symptoms of depression – experts believe that essential oils activate your smell receptors that send messages to the parts of your brain that are connected to your emotions. This combined with massage can help reduce elevated anxiety and reduce cortisol levels in the body.
